Watergate involved break-ins, coverups, major political shenanigans.
Israel is now embroiled in pen-gate.
Former Prime Minister Olmert apparently is an aficionado of pens.
The head of the Israeli Psychoanalytic Society, Shirley Moskowitz, became quite animated when asked to discuss the reasons for this. She said that it clearly shows that Olmert is obsessed with sex and, probably, with her but he would never publicly admit it.
Olmerts spokesperson replied, ” Khara ve’shtuyot,” or we do not wish to discuss this matter.
Maybe, as Freud once said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.”
Apparently, Olmert’s obsession with pens was also related to his love of checks and credit card receipts, according to Freddi Horstein, one of his intimates. Mr. Horstein, while running after a bus, was heard to say, ” Who has time for such idiocies.”
Olmert’s attorney, Eli Zohar, on Thursday completed his cross-examination of state’s witness Shlomit Lavi in connection with the charge that Olmert lied to State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss about the value of his pen collection.
According to the indictment, Olmert received an assessment that the collection was worth NIS 3 million. However, in several declarations of the value of his property to the state comptroller, he wrote that it was worth only NIS 140,000.
Regarding Olmert’s allegedly false report to the state comptroller regarding the pen collection and another affair, in which he allegedly concealed from the state comptroller a gift of $100,000 from businessman Joe Elmaliah, Olmert was charged with receiving something by deceit in aggravated circumstances.
Later in the day, the state summoned Yehudit Lutzky, the Rishon Tours chief accountant, to the witness stand. Prosecuting attorney Uri Korb asked Lutzky what the travel agency did with the excess money credited to Olmert’s so called Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor account that accumulated from his alleged practice of double- and triple-billing organizations that sponsored his trips abroad on their behalf.

After the courtroom scene, Olmert cried out, ” Do you question the value of Obama’s pen collection? What about the head of Iran. I hear he loves pens, too. And how about Hamas; don’t they like pens? Where, gentlemen, is the justice? I ask you, why treat me differently?”
